  1. Big one: walking straight to your ball from the cart. I can't tell you how many times I've walked up, hit a putt and then walked around to the other side and said "Oh….that's why it went 20 feet past. It looks WAY more downhill from over here."

  2. #13. Spending stupid amounts of money on golf equipment & clothes.
#14. (which should really be #1.) … Even just thinking about stepping onto a golf course in the f*kin first place!
Just my opinion, of course 😉

  3. Re: playing uphill. Use a range finder with a slope measurement. If you can afford to play these types of courses, and the clubs, clothes, shoes, etc., it should be no sacrifice to invest in an accurate range finder. Further to my point, it astounds me the folks that will stock their bag with very decent to great equipment, and play with golf balls priced at $15/dozen. For a newcomer, someone without money to spend, an entirely different issue. For those of us lucky enough to play higher end courses, invest money wisely.

  4. Great list! #5, the one about the fairway bunker, is good advice for stroke play. For match play maybe not so. There will be times in that format where you have to throw caution to the wind.

  5. walking up by the green with the wrong club for the pitch shot; realizing you SHOULD walk back to the cart for the right club but instead try to use that wrong club thinking you can pull it off.

  6. RULES. RULES. RULES. When the rules of golf apply, mention them. Biggest mistake a golfer can make is not knowing the rules of golf. Failure to follow the rules has destroyed more friendships and business opportunities than any miss hit ball.

  7. Some amateurs are very good so how about referring to "recreational golfers" instead of amateurs when the term is clearly about those "not so good". Otherwise, keep up the good work!

  8. When you decide to lay up then often you subconsciously take the pressure and tension off of yourself and then make a more smooth and relaxed swing that can result in you finding the sweet spot and making really good contact, which in turn ends up with your ball going that be farther than intended.

  9. Think about each shot right after you’ve hit the ball. What did you do right and what did you do wrong? If you don’t do this immediately after the stroke you loose good information. Similarly, I’ve found it really helpful to watch/study each putt until it stops rolling. If you make the putt you build confidence, if you miss you gain good information for the next putt. Give your brain time to work before you indulge in emotion.
